I decided to make use some of my more decorative wood scraps to make something that I didn’t have, and I will use on a regular basis. In this case it is a wire based cheese slicer made using some leopard wood.

In this case the design was pretty simple, since it was based on the Wood River Cheese Slicer Kit, in which they give you all of the hardware you need, and it includes the instructions you need to make the board exactly the size you need. This is also one of the few projects I have made that did not start with gluing wood together.

Once all the cuts were made, all of the holes were drilled, and it was sanded down, it was time to add a nice food safe finish on it.

In this case I used a mix of mineral oil, and bees wax. It really brought all of the amazing grain patterns in the wood.

Once the oil and wax dried it was time to install the hardware, and when it was all put together it made a pretty nice little cheese board with a built in slicer.
