Over the years I have acquired a number of Forstner bits, during that time I was storing most of them in the containers that they were shipped in. I finally had too many to keep doing that and decided I needed a better way to store them. Hence this project.

As with most projects like this I started with a box. This time it was fully made of scrap pieces that I had leftover for various previous woodworking projects.

After making the box, I decided to camfer the edges to give it a bit of a finished look. Even though it was just “scraps.”

Once the design was finished it was time to separate the top from the bottom of the box.

I like to use masking tape along the expected cut location to limit tear out of the wood by the spinning blade. It normally works quite well.

I was happy with the way the box turned out overall, but I decided I even though it was fine for what I needed it to be used for, I was going to play around a little bit.

So I broke out the router table and my “V” bit, and played around a little to create a rather distinctive look.

Then it was time to time it all together with an internal spacer, and some labels to tie it al together. I even added a few additional holes for possible future purchases.

After that all that was needed was to install the hardware to finish the box out. Overall it turned out pretty nice I think, for some wood scraps.
